Myth & Legend Book Series

Print & Collateral

The Georgia State Library houses over 1.7 million physical titles, and some of them haven't seen daylight in years. I was asked to reimagine a series of rarely-borrowed nonfiction books to spark renewed interest among students.

My chosen titles all hover around a shared thread: myth and legend. From ancient Irish battles to Hebrew mysticism to early American mythmaking, I designed a cohesive system to connect them visually, even if their stories are centuries apart.

The terrain shifted. & So did the design.

I started this series with literal landscapes—bright, bold scenes inspired by 60s book covers and early design icons like Lubalin & Salter. The idea was simple: reflect the setting and emotional tone of each book with a single, striking image.

But halfway through, that idea hit a wall. One book wasn’t about a place, it was about belief. Geography wasn’t the story anymore. So I redefined what a “landscape” could be. In this case: a dripping wax menorah, where the melted trails formed symbolic terrain—shaped not by land, but by ritual.

What started as a visual system rooted in place became something more abstract, more layered, and way more fun to figure out.
